TOPIC 7: Academic Integrity And Performance
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND PERFORMANCE
Hi everyone! So my entry for today is about academic integrity and performance. This topic is conducted by Madam Nurul Afzan Najid on 21st of June 2017. There are two main points that she highlighted which are
- Avoiding plagiarism
- Calculation Grade Point Average (CGPA)
What is plagiarism???
Plagiarism is an act of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original authorExamples of plagiarism are...
- Copying words or ideas from someone without giving credit
- Giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
- Failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
- Changing words but copying the sentence without giving credit
- Copying so many words or idea majority of your work without give credit or not
How to prevent it???
There are many ways on how to prevent from plagiarism. One of it is by consulting lecture. From this, the lecture can give some guide on how to paraphrase the context correctly. Other than that, students should take effective notes. By that, students can create their own ideas and explain it based on their understanding. Next, students need to make it clear who said what. For instance, quote the author or writer along with the context. With that, it wont count as plagiarism as you have credited to them. Apart from that, at the end of the assignment, students require to conclude a reference page. Students can copy the link from the website taken. Not to forget, paraphrase the information. Madam Nurul told us that UITM used APA style to avoid plagiarism. ☝✋✖
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
Every end of the semester, the CGPA will be counted. The scale is between 0 to 4.0 or what it is more known with four flat. Students who achieve results with flying colour every semester will be celebrated as ANC (Anugerah Naib Canselor) at their graduation day. I am determined to be one of them! 😛😍😄
How to calculate gpa???
(credit hour x pointer) total / total credit hour every subject
